“Love is as love does. We are loving when we openly and honestly express care, affection, responsibility, respect, commitment, and trust.” — Bell Hooks
Dear Friends and Family,
I very much appreciated Gary’s Power Talk. It was authentic, courageous, and deeply honest. It was one of the finest examples of self-love that I have had the privilege of witnessing.
As Bell Hooks reminds us, love is demonstrated through our actions. Gary expressed love for himself by honestly sharing his thoughts and feelings when faced with situations in which people claimed to love and care about him, yet made decisions that negatively affected him and others in his community.
My talk last Sunday was about each of us being here on this journey home together. We are certainly here to love one another on our journey. The truth is, we cannot genuinely love others until we first learn to love ourselves. I am grateful to have witnessed someone using the tools of Religious Science to embody and practice this important principle of self-love. It is a step toward creating a world that works for each of us.
May each of us choose to love ourselves more fully, so that we may love others more deeply.
