A Government Blessing
Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and render to God what is God’s
Holy Bible, Matthew 22:21
I want to put a spin on this April’s “spring and flowers” theme and talk about taxes. Yes taxes. Although it brings grief to many individuals, I like to focus my energy on its positive aspects.
One of the many lessons the Course in Miracles teaches is that we can look at things differently. This allows me to ask two questions about taxes: (1) Are taxes fair for all (Hell no!) (2) and are they necessary (Hell yes).
Every I time pass through a green light, I am confident to know that the opposing traffic is stopping because my tax-paying dollars are assuring that I am in a safe, controlled intersection. When I see children playing on a school yard, I know that they getting an education funded by my tax dollars. Whenever I travel, either by land, sea, or air I am confident that federal regulations allow me to arrive safely at my destination. I walk among skyscrapers and become mindful that they are not going to collapse thanks to tax funded inspectors assuring that building codes and regulations are in place. My lights are on at home; I have heat and air conditioning, and I can call 911 if an emergency happens. And I pay taxes for all these services. The list of positive things goes on and on. It’s definitely not a fair and perfect piece of legislation but I am thankful for all the good it does in my life and the lives of others.
So, I honor April 15th and see only the good that comes out of it. I get to choose peace instead of worry, knowing my tax contributions not only benefit me but the fellow beings I live with in this country.
Affirmation:
I hold a high obligation to the Universal Presence
I have a human obligation to this government
The Universal Presence is infinite
The other is finite
I win!
