Dear Family and Friends,

Last Sunday, we began a month of speaking about the physical body. Is your body ready for summer? I am not referring to whether or not you like how you look in shorts or a swimsuit necessarily, but if that is something that you are challenged with, then what is your plan because, like it or not, the heat is upon us.

There are many things in the world that we certainly can and should change, but hot summers in Vegas probably aren’t on the list. Although it isn’t quite summer, this is the first week of 100 + temperatures here in Las Vegas. We could wish that it wouldn’t get hot, we could deny the fact that it is as hot as it is in Las Vegas, we could move, we could whine and complain about it until fall, or we can acknowledge the fact that it is hot, prepare for the heat and actually find things that we enjoy about this time of year.

Physically there are a few things that each of us can do to prepare for the heat, such as drink plenty of water, eat lighter meals and limit alcohol intake; however, I have found that the biggest thing that I have to do (which is in line with what we teach as Religious Scientists) is to mentally accept the fact that it will be hot for the next 4 months or so.

The choice is up to each one of us on how we handle our summer; however, with all the goings-on in the world, my suggestion as the precursor to the next few months is as Dr. Holmes says, “If the body is to be permanently well, the soul or subjective life must be ready in poise, the mind peaceful and happy.” So let’s all accept for all of us Las Vegans a happy, healthy, joyful summer. Remember, as James Brown said, “If you stay ready, you ain’t gotta get ready!”

Stay Cool!
Namaste,
Rev. Staci
