“The Law of Entropy tells us that everything falls apart. Despite our best efforts, our good intentions, and how much we’ve healed, whatever we build—our relationships, our organizations, or families, even the society we have come to know—
can and will break down.”-Prentis Hemphill-
What it Takes to Heal- How Transforming
Ourselves Can Change the World
Dear Friends and Family,
I found the following information on the internet about the second law of Thermodynamics, which I mentioned this past Sunday. As we all know, the internet can be a rabbit hole when searching for information on most topics, but I found this quite interesting and thought some might find it useful.
The word entropy finds its roots in the Greek entropia, which means “a turning toward” or “transformation.
The law of entropy states is the general trend of the universe
toward death and disorder. lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.
It is the measurement of the degree of disordered particles in a system. That which no energy is applied is naturally headed
toward decay.
A person with higher entropy, resulting in a greater state of disorder and chaos, can actually be more motivated to improve their situation.
Entropy will always increase on its own. The only way to make things orderly again is to add energy. Order requires effort.
Entropy is a measure of the disorder of a system.
That with the most freedom has the biggest possibility to be disorderly it has the highest entropy.
We are at a place where we, as individuals, Centers (churches), cities, states, our nation, and the world are in a state of high entropy. We are in a time where we are experiencing conflict on every level, and we are at a point where that which is ready to break down will break down, and we have an opportunity to build a new foundation and form peace from the pieces.
The book of the month for the Healing Words book club came from a suggestion from Dr. David Alexander, the Spiritual Director of the Center for Spiritual Living in Midtown/Atlanta. CSL is having a book study that will begin the same day we meet, the last Wednesday of September, from 4-5:30 pm PDT. We should join the larger group to be a part of the important conversation about what is next for us to heal ourselves and the world.
