“When we speak the words of thanksgiving to the God within, knowing “before they ask will I answer,” there is something in this attitude of thanksgiving that carries beyond the field of doubt into one of perfect faith and acceptance, receptivity…realization. Appreciation, gratitude, and thanksgiving-the motive power which attracts and magnifies the hidden potentialities of life.”
-Dr. Ernest Holmes-SOM Textbook-
Dear Family and Friends,
As we approach the beginning of the holiday season, many Americans celebrate the idea of Thanksgiving. The memories of waking up to the smell of turkey, helping my grandmother set the tables with the best China and silver, helping to chop up vegetables, the conversations, the laughter, and even the various disagreements amongst family members stay with me. All of the energy, time, talent, and treasure put into a meal. The food was always delicious.
This holiday was my favorite because of the idea of a feast between people who were different coming together (Americans and Indigenous) to create this great nation where I live. It was a day that celebrated family, friendships, food, and a sense of pride for my country. Most of all, it was a day of expressing gratitude for all of my many blessings. Not so many years ago, an awakening happened that led me to decide not to celebrate Thanksgiving. And yet, it is difficult to live in this country and avoid the holiday. I recognize and accept the truth of this country for its past and present transgressions.
I know, appreciate, and am grateful for all that has been given to me. With that, I move forward knowing that my words, actions, and deeds support me being the loving, generous, supportive individual who intends to create a world that works for all.
I hope some of you will join us this evening for our Forgiveness and Gratitude Service, celebrating the beginning of the holiday season. I look forward to and am grateful to be here, on this plane, with each of us showing up to create the city, nation, and world we want to live in and pass on to our youth.
Peace and Blessings,
Rev. Staci
