Taking One Day at a Time
Day by day, day by day; Oh, dear Lord three things I pray
To see thee more clearly. Love thee more dearly. Follow thee more nearly.
Day by day
Lyrics from Godspell
Each December I begin to plan the upcoming year. Always positive, I look at the challenges of the previous year and began to set goals and plans to make things move a little bit smoother than my last year’s experiences. This year I decided to do something a little bit different. As the lyrics in the musical Godspell so simply put it. I want to see, love, and walk more clearly with God.
To see God more clearly, I am looking at seeing myself as my true essence. After all, I am the image and likeness of the Divine, so I should be able to look at myself as the reflection of all that is Good, Holy, and beneficial to my fellow beings on this planet. What I say, do and show up should reflect that I am loving my brothers/sisters as myself.
To Love God more dearly, I should begin with self-love and self-forgiveness. Can’t love or forgive anyone else unless I start with myself. Meditation, prayer, and contemplation are the order of the day for me.
Then to love God more nearly, I need to continually realize and affirm that the love of God is already within me. When I allow my ego take charge of my life, I move into a life of separation. I am not any of those labels that are attached to my human experience. I am one with the Universal Presence.
Finally, I need to remind myself each day of these three things and practice, practice, practice. It’s not rocket science, but a devoted exercise motivated by the desire to realize who and what I truly am, and to activate my gifts and talents in this incarnation to be a beneficial presence on this planet. And do this one day at a time.
Affirmation:
My life is Good
I see myself as God sees me
I love with the love of God
And I am ONE with God
