“We aren’t free until we are all free”
-Fannie Lou Hamer
Dear Family and Friends,
ast Sunday, Rev Cheryl and I were asked to participate in Redondo Beach CSL’s Juneteenth program. It was a lovely program after their Sunday Service. It is always nice to go home to Southern California and visit the campus where we attended ministerial school. It has been 11 years since becoming ministers and it has been quite a ride. We visited our beloved teacher and mentor Dr. Moira Foxe and our classmates and colleagues, Assistant Ministers Katherine Mckinney and Cathie Sinfeld.
We have all gone through a great deal and it is amazing to witness the growth, dedication, and commitment of all of us. Juneteenth is a program that Rev McKinney put together and it involved drumming, song, sing-a-longs, readings, and great soul food. Rev McKinney has been putting this program on for the last three years.
Redondo Beach, like Las Vegas CSL, does not have many members of color, which makes the program even more special. The time, the care, the realization of oneness, and the love put forth to recognize and celebrate this day warms my heart. Rev Gregory Toole who is now the Senior Minister of Redondo Beach CSL said this in his Sunday message, “All of life responds to care”. I love and appreciate the care and attention provided for the Redondo Beach CSL Juneteenth celebration.
The good work done on that day allows me to feel that the birthright of freedom is sure to be attained by all. Happy Juneteenth! I invite all of us to find a way to celebrate.
Thank you, Rev Sandy, for your Sunday message and all those who helped with our Sunday service while we were away.
Peace and Blessings,
Rev Staci
